The Visitors Centre includes exhibits and films outlining the scale of production on the Burrup Peninsula and explaining gas extraction, liquefaction and exporting process.
The Centre has a view overlooking the Woodside-operated Karratha Gas Plant with five gas processing trains and more than 65 000 cubic metres of LNG storage in each of four (largely buried) spherical tanks. The plant can produce up to 52 000 t of LNG per day. The port facility can load special LNG ships at the rate of 10 000 cubic metres per hour.
The Centre is open Tuesday to Thursday 9am to 12pm during school holidays and Wednesday’s 9am to 12pm during school term. Opening hours are seasonal so it is best to call ahead to check.
Entry is free.
